Would you buy a railroad built with high voltage lines buried in the roadbed?
If the expansion of high voltage power systems were linked to the revival of rail transportation could it become profitable soon enough to help turn around the economy? If you built high speed rail systems with conduit under the track and could cool the conductors with air flow. The convection flow of hot air could turn turbines connected to generators and you could increase efficiency. The burial of power lines would overcome some of the resistance to power line expansion. We are supposed to have a twenty percent increase in high voltage demand in the next twenty years.
