U.S. to block G8 emissions targets - good or bad idea?

It is easy to set goals and it is easier to miss them. It is easy to raise the bar if you are sure the US is going to knock it down. That way you can go back home and appease your wacked out leftists and say you tried. A new carbon tax is extremely unlikely IMO because the American people would expect that the taxes would be reduced elsewhere but the left certainly isn't about to turn down a new gold mine. What they will do is create a cap and trade scheme that hides taxes that they can claim to be on polluters. It may work for a while but I suspect that dragging our economy into the toilet (or lue (sp?)) isn't going to sit well with anybody.
