Please help!! Need a dress for best friend's 21st...?

My best friend's turning 21 in a couple of weeks and he's set a smart dress code so I've been looking everywhere for a nice dress...I want something simple but striking, not vintage or frilly or anything as I look ridiculous in things like that! Basically, I have an athletic figure size 10 so I like basic lines and fitted dresses without too much detailing. Ideally I'd like a halterneck too and not too long, like mid-thigh, but cly-looking, not trashy. Black and silver are my favourite colours but would also wear pink, white, some greens, greys, turquoise and some blues. I know this is a very specific question but I have literally spent two days on the internet after exhausting myself shopping for hooooours in town!! PLEEEEEEASE HELP!!
