Sounds like. a former lover, that the person has been crushed by. She still has feelings for him, but,he knows it's not the same feelings he has. If he was ever to decide to get back together again. the outcome would be the same. His emotions are what is split in 2. That's why he is drinking. For what he wants in the relationship is unrealistic. His emotions are split in half, knowing he can never go back to the one he loves.
